Bored of your job? Thinking about quitting? Well, before you take this highly important decision, there is something you need to ask yourself — is quitting the only option? Can’t you do something to get rid of the boredom?

Because if you quit once, chances are that after a while you are going to join another and the same cycle is going to repeat there as well. So, does that mean you will keep on quitting every job after a while? What if I told you that you can get rid of this problem by bringing out some small, actionable changes in your work life?

If you don’t believe me, then try out the list of things that I am going to share with you here. And, see how they will help you to get rid of the boredom and monotony from your work life. So let us take a look at those things one by one -

Revamp your workstation

I completely understand that you cannot change things like work culture, office ambience and more on your own. But, you can definitely perk up your workstation by bringing in some interesting stuff.

For instance, adding some colors to your workstation can do wonders. You can throw in some bonsai trees as well (studies have shown that gazing at nature can boost productivity). Or, add some other elements that can eliminate the outlook of a boring office desk, and create it a more interesting one so that you can always feel at home. After all, home is the only place where we don’t get bored.

Shoulder new responsibilities

9 to 5 work schedule. Working on the same kind of tasks day in and day out. The same seating place. The same ambience. The same work atmosphere. How can you expect to get rejuvenated on your own when everything around you is confined to these fixed boundaries?

There are some things which are beyond your control, like office timings for instance. You cannot simply ask the management to shuffle the timing every now and then just because you got bored. But there are other things which are within your control. And one such thing is to break the barrier of monotony by taking on new challenges, new roles and new responsibilities. Involve yourself in tasks and activities which are beyond your scope of work.

Know your worth (and your job’s)

Demotivation and boredom can easily seep in when you don’t know your worth for your team and organization. In fact, this can be the number one reason for you losing interest in the job as you might feel you are not adding anything of value to the organization, as well as your personal growth.

This is where you need to do a little bit of self-assessment and self-realization. Think of the reasons you joined the organization in first place. It’s quite easy to lose the purpose of why you are working when work gets monotonous. And under such circumstance the only thing that can get you back on track is to find the driving force that can keep you going. Doing some personal reassessment can be the best step for this!

Take a break

And, when all this does not seem to work the best thing you can gift yourself is a small break from work. It does not have to be a month long sabbatical. It could be a couple of days off, but it has to be completely away from the hustle and bustle of work.

This will rejuvenate the creative juices that might have exhausted over the course of time. Spend some quality time with people you love. Or maybe go for a solo trip over weekend so that you can explore something new. Sometimes you need to step outside, get some air and remind yourself of who you are and who you want to be.

Sound exciting — these tips — don’t they? If you want to perk up your work life, then go ahead and try these tips. And, I am sure you will end up getting something out of these!
