The question is — what does it take to be an entrepreneur? One of the first things to keep in mind here is that being an entrepreneur is not a job, it’s a lifestyle! You need to adopt that lifestyle. You need to eat, sleep and think like an entrepreneur.
How can you do that? Well here are some tips that will help you think like an entrepreneur -
Start where you are
Entrepreneurs don’t wait for things to happen. They don’t wait for a tryst with destiny. They believe in themselves and their idea. That’s why they start from wherever they are. The challenges in the way don’t deter them. If you keep waiting for the right time, it is never going to come. You have to step into the field and make the time right.
So, if you are still waiting for that right time to start things, then keep waiting. And, someone else will already be doing it.
Use what you have
Even nature has limited resources. The skill lies in not to gather the best resources or to have the largest number of them. The real skill lies in making the most of what you’ve got. Battles are won not by those who have the biggest troops. But, by the ones who are able to master their troops to the best of their abilities.
If you want to become an entrepreneur, then you need to become self aware. You need to know your strengths and weakness, so that you can focus on the strong areas.
Do what you can
People talk about overnight success. But, no one remembers the efforts put to reach to that stage. Success and failure, no can predict. But, what we all can do is give our best effort. Successful entrepreneurs don’t daydream about success. They work for it. And, they throw in everything they’ve got to achieve success.
Even if they fail they don’t back down. They get up, learn from their mistakes and come back even stronger. They don’t complain, but they do whatever they can!
Starve your distractions
Feeding your focus — that’s the biggest mantra if you want to become successful. Does that mean successful entrepreneurs don’t get distracted? Yes, they do. But, they know how to feed their focus and starve the distractions. For instance, they don’t keep the company of people who like to waste time. They are always on the lookout for making things easy, and get work done.
That’s how they keep themselves productive, it’s not that they have any magic potion for it.
Prove people wrong
Most important of all, you got to have the courage to prove people wrong. Successful entrepreneurs don’t let others make them think they don’t deserve what they want. They don’t let the fear of failure stop them from trying things. If you want to awaken the entrepreneurial spirit in you, then you need to keep trying.
As Seth Godin says,” if you don’t know how it works, find out. If you are not sure if it will work, try it.” You never know if the next try is going to be the one that works!
The goal isn’t more money
Successful entrepreneur don’t choose to do something for just the money. They do it because they want to live life on your own terms. Money comes as an added bonus, but the ultimate motive is to create something that can solve problems. Trust me, money will start to flow if you have an innovative idea and you can work to bring that idea into reality.
But, just thinking that you want to make money and then come with ideas to achieve that? That’s not how the true entrepreneurial spirit works.
The key to becoming a successful entrepreneur lies in being able to think like one. And, I’m sure after reading all the points mentioned in this post you will have an idea about how to do that.
If you think you have it in you to put a dent in the universe, then start inculcating these habits in your lifestyle. And, I’m sure it won’t be long when you will be able to celebrate success!
