Working well within the teams and having inter-team discussion sometimes seem a difficult task to do. Also, now in the networked world, one needs to have cross-team collaboration to deliver better results. With the expansion of the teams and their increased number in the company, the challenge of communicating well with all of the teams gets more complex.

I, being the manager of the marketing team at ProofHub, completely understand the importance of bridging the gap between different teams and decreasing the communication barriers. Having a healthy discussion with the other members of the team plays a key role in reaching the desired targets.

In this article, we will take a look at the questions that a leader or a manager needs to ask himself before launching the concept of team collaboration in the workplace. But before that, let’s understand the significance of teamwork and collaboration.

Significance of Teamwork and Collaboration: What You Need to Know

“None of us is as smart as all of us.” — Ken Blanchard

Having open words with members of the other teams and working hand in hand is the need of the hour for every business. It increases your chances of success.

Team handling becomes a complex thing when it is not organized and planned. The need for bringing out the best from all the team members is directly proportional to the steep hike in the competition.

Finding new techniques for team collaboration is as important for businesses as having a business idea. The leaders are the key players in any organization’s success and they need to outperform the competition. But no person can do this alone.

Since I am always on the lookout for some effective changes to be introduced to give a boost to the employees’ enthusiasm and productivity, I was directed towards one solution: collaboration.

Fostering collaboration helped me move from “developing leaders” to “building teams”. Reading more about collaboration from various sources, I came across various questions that I asked myself before fueling my team.

I thought of sharing the most effective of them with you.

So, What Should You Ask Yourself Before Encouraging Your Employees to Work Together?

  1. Do you have the required mindset?

Do you have the required mindset to harness the power of connections within your organization? Having a correct mindset is the game-controller in every aspect of life. You need to have a collaborative mindset for skyrocketing the idea. One must have a problem-solving attitude and must be open to adopting collaborative thinking. To adapt this in the workplace, you can avoid emphasizing on the silos and internal competition. Practicing new ideas for every employee of the team also works.

2. How much do you value team performance?

Most of the organizations bar themselves to encourage only individual performance and do not focus on empowering the entire team and promoting teamwork. Teamwork and collaboration are the two key terms in the proper functioning of the companies. It is because these are the factors which ease the tasks performed by every individual of the team. As it is said that the key difference between success and failure is a great team, Micheal Jordan has beautifully imparted the idea of ‘Power of We,’ through the following quote:

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.”

3. How limitless are you?

What is the point to which you can stretch and expand? How much dedication you can put into team coaching? How willing are you to work together? The collaboration of the principles of teamwork in the operations of the team takes lots of effort. Sticking to the goal of the improvement of the team performance needs persistence and perseverance. It is not just a one-meeting thing.

4. Do you have skilled team members?

As we have discussed above that introducing collaboration in the workplace culture is not a cakewalk in the beginning. One sometimes may also need to make some adjustments to fit into the office environment and become a solute in the solution.

“Remember, teamwork begins by building trust. And the only way to do that is to overcome our need for invulnerability.”- Patrick Lencioni.

In many organizations, employees focus only on personal ambition and overlook working together in teams. To deal with that, you need to check if your employees show interest in learning new technologies and using them in routine to work faster, simpler, and smarter. For example, there are several project management software tools like ProofHub, nTask, Scoro, Workzone, etc.

Tip: Find 7 to 20 minutes in your busy schedule to boost the team’s confidence and drawing them the benefits of working together in teams.

5. Are you open to adapt to a positive attitude for long?

Negative thoughts should not find any space while practicing inter-team collaboration at the workplace. One of the steps towards positivity is to set achievable targets, which, of course, you can increase as the time passes and you get equal support from the team. Be positive about the targets you have set for the team. Are you willing to shift from negativity to positivity and bring the most positive thoughts to the table? Believing that the employees have a learning and a cooperating attitude and everything will fall in place comes under bringing positivity in the team.

Final words:

These were some of the questions which I came across at the beginning of introducing the concept of collaboration in my team. I must say that studying and conducting some research before taking any important step can change the outcomes completely.

I had conducted a lot of research before taking the initiative. I was worried about several factors such as the productivity of every employee of the team, their comfort level, etc. But everything changed and for the good.

Now, in the year 2019, we are a well-established brand with our major clients being KFC, Taco Bell, Fractal Fox, Accord, Inside Online, etc. All thanks to the concept and the tool which helped the teams to access the information they need. Also, changing and editing things at any point of time without beginning all over again is easier now.

Good Luck!
